Or should that be worthless?

I’ve received a tip-off from somebody who likes to think he’s cultured and intelligent. So quite why he reads my website, I’m not sure. I’m also surprised he was able to tear himself away from Radio 4, but he tells me his unusual decision to turn the dial a few notches over to Radio Wales was well-rewarded.

One of the stories under discussion on yesterday evening’s ‘Good evening Wales’ was the announcement from Leighton Andrews AM, the Education minister at the Welsh Government, of a wide-ranging review into education which could see schools and education taken away from the 22 Welsh local authorities.

To illustrate the story and give it some colour, that trusty classic -the telephone interview- was deployed. And what an interview it was. Listen to it below. I think my favourite part is the early slip of the tongue, almost substituting ‘infection’ for ‘inspection.’

“Local democracy…and that is local authorities”

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

He wants power beyond what should ever be placed in the hands of such an undemocratic local authority. People of this ilk weren’t happy when the power was centralised in London. When it was devolved and centralised in Cardiff at the cost of millions upon millions of pounds, with yet another level of costly ineffective politicians it STILL doesn’t work and they’re still not happy.

Being run at local level OBVIOUSLY doesn’t work as the recent failings in child safeguarding proves. There is no case to be made here. As Huw George is still in a job it proves that there is ultimately little or no local accountability for massive and serious failings and though I’m no fan of WAG, I trust them more than the local bunch of cabinet and executive clowns to make the correct decisions.
