I received a telephone call this morning from the author of that other website.
In a rather excitable tone he explained that a Burton villager had got in touch to say their county councillor – David Wildman – is about to resign his seat.
And Cllr. Wildman isn’t just turning his back on his cabinet career, but stepping down from the council completely.
After explaining the details, Grumpy said he was going to take great delight in scooping me with a stop-press announcement on his website, but he was calling me to soften the blow.
I asked if he had a headline for the story in mind, to which he replied he was struggling.
‘Gone for a Burton’ would have been my choice, I said, if I was breaking the news.
And, as he’d given me fair warning, the least I can do is allow him to use it.
Without Cllr. Wildman the IPG will be down to 30 members out of 60, so it’s unlikely the resignation will come into effect before February 28th – the next council meeting.

First I’ve heard and I’m in his parish, so to speak, although he did resign the community council recently, so perhaps something is afoot. I await further developments.
Hi Concerned, I think you’ll find it is true.
If you live in Burton and haven’t heard about this, I suggest you try to get out more.
Anyway, people died so that we could have the vote, so consider yourself lucky that you are being offered two opportunities in the space of twelve months.
I’ve no doubt you’re right OG. Must get out more. Will be nice to have an election here for a change.
There must be a good reason to give up such a lucrative sideline. In addition to the £29,543 he got from PCC he also got £10-15,000 from his membership of the Hywel Dda Health Board, so making do on £39-44,000 less will be a blow.
Your correspondent does not know what he is talking about, and he lives in Burton Parish. Let me inform you boys what the correct situation is.
David Wildman was NOT a member of the Community Council so how on earth could he resign from it? He actually has decided to RETIRE to spend more time with his wife and family, I have heard on good authority.
I wish him all the best for his support to the community. We have lost a very good and dedicated county councillor.
To be fair, Lilly…I’d be happy to support my community if I was paid £44k per annum…how about you??
