A reader who is linked to the Police Federation has got in touch with JW to say that the ex-leader of Pembrokeshire County Council, John Davies, has now finally decided against running for the police and crime commissioner post as an independent.
In a statement released only yesterday, Davies confirmed: “I have given it further thought and due to new commitments I have decided to withdraw my interest.”
The window for candidates to submit their nominations opened this morning, and closes on Friday 19th October, ahead of the inaugural election on November 15th.
You’ll remember that after pulling out of the Conservative candidate selection race, it was left up in the air as to whether or not an independent bid was on the cards.
What new commitments, then, you’re wondering? I suspect a cabinet call beckons, to assist the good ship PCC in its journey of improvement!

Chair of the Royal Welsh I believe but what commitment that is I don’t know.
No cabinet position, you will be relieved to hear. He has just been appointed Chairman of the Royal Welsh Show (stipend, if any, unknown).
Wonder no longer:
