After reading my last post ‘The ideal councillor,’ about the council’s new booklet teaching primary school children about the authority’s functions and services, an elderly reader got in touch to let me know that there was something I had failed to pick up on.
In the article, I referred to activity number one in the booklet, called ‘The ideal councillor,’ but my learnèd correspondent says I should also have given some scrutiny to activity number four, called ‘Secret Code.’
In this ‘Secret Code’ activity, which is reproduced below, the kids have to use code-breaking skills to transcribe a secret message which is represented by domino-like symbols instead of letters of the alphabet.
My reader says:
Having now read the booklet myself, I have concluded that it is even worse than you claimed. I notice that in the activity called “Secret Code,” the letters F and H are given the same symbol.
Oh! For some competent roof preaders!
Must be part of the campaign to prevent confrontational behaviour as promoted by the restorative practice regime.
Who could possibly be offended by being told to huck ohh?

Astonishing that precious council resources have been wasted on this patronising drivel. Good on you Jacob for bringing this to light.
Given how badly our local kids are doing in school I’d have thought there were far better things for them to be doing than spending time reading through – let alone decoding – a badly put together PCC propaganda sheet.
